Confidence Code

Confidence Code by Katty Kay and Claire ShipmanConfidence Code: The Science and Art of Self-Assuranceby Katty Kay and Claire ShipmanThis book is a delight to read with intriguing real life examples and a down-to earth approach to  the science and art of women and confidence. Written by two fairly well known journalists, Katty Kay and Claire Shipman, they initially define confidence as "the stuff that turns thoughts into action" and explain the latest research on why women seem to struggle with self-confidence more than men.  The good news is that men don’t seem to have proprietary access to a confidence gene. Rather women need to create a different brand from the male or macho version of confidence. Role-models such as NY Senator, Kirsten Gillibrand, asks why would women want to walk around and shout that they are best. Instead, she shares how female members of Congress get significantly more legislation passed than do men and work more often with members of the other party all while men pontificate. The new version of feminine confidence involves playing to your strengths and values. This book provides a handful of confidence boosting habits and advice for parents of girls as to how they can build their daughters self-assurance.  It’s a fascinating read for parents of girls, women of all ages, and anyone who is struggling to find their voice in our competitive world…and I was left inspired to dare be confident in my own way!
